CONTEST RULES:

Eligible entries include short stories, poetry, essays, and non-fiction works of no more than 8,000 words.
All entries must be original works.
No more than one story may be submitted.
Writers must be a member of the Loft Open Voices Group, Loft Global Writers Group, or As Written By Teen Writers Group.
There is no fee to enter.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

Please put the word SUBMISSION in the subject line when sending a contest entry and QUESTION in the subject line for questions to the contest administrator.
Send manuscript entries as .rtf attachments.
The title of the work, the author's name, address and telephone number, and an approximate word-count must be in the body of the email.

The RTF file for each entry must:
- Have a cover page with the title of the work, the author's name, address and telephone number, and an approximate word-count.
- The manuscript should be in standard manuscript format and should be titled and numbered on every page.
- The author's name MUST NOT APPEAR except on the cover page to facilitate fair judging.

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE:

Deeply layered, positive stories about the triumph of the human spirit. Negative story elements should only be emphasized insomuch as they play a role in plot and/or setting. Please don’t belabor such plot elements.

WHAT WE DON’T WANT TO SEE:

Stories on mental illness, poverty, abuse, or alcoholism.

PRIZES:

The GRAND PRIZE winner will receive $500.00 and publication in the Loft Open Voices Newsletter.* The winner will also receive a Loft Open Voices tote bag and coffee mug.
Deadline for entry December 30, 2008.
Winners will be announced and notified no later than January 31, 2009.
