February, 2008]
It has been such a busy first quarter. The rush of holiday
festivities, gave way to a rush of New Year activities. In January, I
began working with students at a local high school for our new
teen writing group called, As Written By, or A.W.B.. We'll be offering the
group at The Loft in Minneapolis starting March 1. If you're a writer
between the ages of 15 - 18, and you would like more information, contact us
at join@aswrittenby.com. The
A.W.B. site is not yet operational, but it will be up and running soon.

Glynis Wafer Memorial
We just completed the judging for the Glynis Wafer Memorial Contest.
The contest (in memory of my sister Glynis, who passed away in 2005 at the
age of 36), was particularly difficult to judge. The entries were
excellent. Only one point separated the winner from second place.
I would like to thank the panel of judges: Greta Huttanus, group moderator
for the Loft Open Voices group; and Bryant Avey, of InterNuntius,
Incorporated, for their assistance in judging this contest.
And the prize goes to. . .
Congratulations to Jeanne Lutz of St. Paul, Minnesota. Jeanne's short story,
Florence Nightingale and the Deer, is a tale of two very different
people searching for a place to belong. The winning entry will be
published in the spring 2008 Open Voices newsletter.
The Loft Open Voices Writing Group meets the second Tuesday of the month at
the Loft in Minneapolis. If you're a Minnesota resident interested in
being a part of the group, contact Greta Huttanus at
Openvoices@yahoo.com.
